Brook Trout on Henrys Lake
Two of my sons-in-law and my grandson joined me for a great day on Henrys Lake. We caught one hybrid, seven cutthroats and 15 brook trout for a great day. Most of the fish were taken in 20 feet of water on a #4 Light Olive and Black Woolly Bugger.
Here a son-in-law shows off a large brook trout taken in the Wild Rose Hybrid Hole.
Just the first day of a three-day fishing experience.

Bill,
Happy to see some fish being caught. I have been in Belize chasing Permit and am looking forward to hitting the lake. We are dockmates and I got my boat in last weekend. The snowflies are starting to invade at a fervent pitch. I cast poorly enough without the handicap of a beekeepers suit.
We got 33 yesterday about in the middle of the lake, but shading toward Targhee Creek. A lot of fish in that area. You need a Wet Cel 4 line and fish it as you drift. It was odd yesterday as we only caught two brookies, four hybrids and the rest were cutts. Good fishing to you - I will visit with you.
My favorite flies are not necessarily the best selling flies. Here are my top 10 favorites in the order of my preference: Bead Mity Mouse Light Olive Crystal Bead Electric Black Half-assed Renegade Mity Mouse Bead Gold Olive AH Peacock AH Bead Brown AH California Leech Gold Glimmer A set of two of each of the above flies in a box is $39.00 plus $2.80 for shipping and handling. Individual flies are $2.00 each or $20.00 per dozen.
Fishing Henrys Lake
Fishing Henrys Lake
Book by Bill Schiess
This is a "how-to fish" book about the world famous lake. It shows the areas best to fish during each month of the season.
Written after 50 years experience in both fishing and guiding on the lake. It also contains what lines, flies and tackle to use as well as some essays about the lake in the "little bs" section. A must book for both beginners and experianced fishermen on this beautiful lake. It is a great gift for fishermen looking for a good book about the sport of angling.
Cost is $14.95 plus $2.10 for shipping and handling.
I have been married for 42 years with four daughters and eight grandchildren. I am passionate about birding and photography. I string for two newspapers and have published two books.
I have been a licensed fishing guide on Henrys Lake near Yellowstone Park for 35 years. I used to own BS Flies, but sold it. I still tye about 12000 flies each year for area shops. A few of my book, "Fishing Henrys Lake" is still available.
I teach US government at Madison High School but only half the time. The rest of my time is spent administering a "Teaching American History" federal grant. With this job I travel a bit.
I also write essays about life that do not appear in the newspapers. From time to time I will include them in this blog.
